What you want to do is shoot for the highest rankings possible in the search engines using certain strategies that work. You need to realize what you want to achieve before any site building can begin. So for each website that you make, stick to one methodology, to keep yourself focused and productive.
You can choose to use phrases that will give you a respectable amount of monthly traffic for your efforts. Just because you are new at this business, you're in a special category of your own. So when you plan out your first website, it should only be done once you have a solid foundation of SEO knowledge under your belt.
Basically, take all of the keyword phrases you want to use, and then figure out how much traffic they will bring you altogether. If you are working with the title tags and to compose something that is relevant and meaningful, you need to keep the length of that thing in mind. Even old IM dogs can still learn new tricks, and there are plenty of them out there still undiscovered.
This isn't like learning brain surgery, however there will be a learning curve which will seem more like a vertical line to those just learning. Regardless of where you are with your online business, you should work to broaden your SEO knowledge and methods as much as possible. More importantly, you don't want to have to make a hugely long list of phrases and hope that they will all be caught.
Keeping things under seventy characters is important. You should help yourself out by shooting to reach that upper limit but keep in mind that going over it is nothing more than a waste of your time. Search engines will simply truncate anything that goes past that upper limit cut off.
But you will not fill up that space with keyword phrases unless you really have a long-tail phrase. It is important that your information to be displayed so that readers can connect with it. Now you know that you shouldn't ever use more than seventy characters: this is an important length requirement. When you have extra space it is better to include the secondary phrase you want to use for that page.
Each page is highly optimized for one main phrase and then several secondary phrases plus others you will never guess. As you write each page's title tag make sure that it is the best tag for that page. So simply use your main phrase and then put something in there that is relevant but don't waste time or space on your domain name.
Then you understand how they need to be written so that they will include the correct phrases that you've been aiming at. You can actually get pretty creative with title tags just as long as you follow what is right with creating them. If you use long tail keywords, be advised that they will not bring you very much traffic because the search volume is so small.
This means that searchers won't see it, so it doesn't hold any value. There are a few things you can employ that will help catch the eyes and attention of people. It's also a good idea to include some really catchy phrases and grab peoples' attention right from the very beginning.
