Helpful Tips on Building a Keyword Rich Web Site

When building a web site, writing content or publishing an article, it’s important to do your research for proper keywords and keyword phrases. Using the proper keywords and phrases will make your writings more relevant, and possibly provide more appeal to the readers needs. The search engines need keywords and keyword phrase to properly index and rank your site appropriately.

By now you should be aware of the importance of keywords and keyword phrases in your overall marketing strategies, especially when it comes to search engine optimization. Finding the right keywords or phrase is the absolute first step one must consider when attempting to generate traffic from the search engines to your web site or published article.

Finding the right keyword or phrases can be a daunting task if you aren’t totally aware of how to conduct an effective keyword search. Many marketers rely on different keyword research tools to help them in this ever changing chore. Other writers will rely solely on their gut feelings of what keywords or phrases to use. Normally this approach falls far short of a good outcome. Therefore, it’s important to determine what works for you and what doesn’t. Once you’ve established a workable plan, follow that path until new information is obtained which may make it necessary for you to change your marketing strategies in the future.

When doing your research, keep in mind that following four basic steps will help keep you on the path to a better outcome than just randomly grasping for straws. The following suggestions should make it easier for you to accomplish your marketing goals.

  • 1) Initially look for relevant keyword suggestions. Google offers a free keyword tool that is extremely powerful and will help you in this endeavor. Many of the other search engines offer like programs as well. Don’t overlook synonyms in your research process. This process is often referred to as traditional “keyword research”.

  • 2) Look for sayings and terms that users are already using to find your web site or a competitors site. This is referred to as “keyword analysis”.

  • 3) Think of what you might type into the search bar of your favorite search engines toolbar, think of it as if you were a potential customer who is in the market for your particular product or service. Ask your friends and family what they might use as a search term if they had an interest in what you’re offering. This is often referred to as “circle of friends and contacts input”.

  • 4) Once you’ve determined what keywords you’re going to use, put your keywords in priority of importance as it relates to your web site or writing. Prioritize 8 to 10 keywords that are important and relevant to your marketing opportunity. This is referred to as “keyword organization”.

There are numerous programs available online that will help you accomplish your marketing goals. Choosing the proper program will save you an incredible amount of time and money when conducting the four basic steps referred to above. Some of these programs may include such things as recent trends for specific keywords which can be extremely helpful in determining the right keywords or phrases.

Your operating system on your computer provides a spell check function which you should always use. Improper pronunciation and spelling can be corrected with a few clicks of the mouse. If you consistently misspell words, your reader may become irritated and click off your site and go to another site that is more relevant to their needs and properly constructed. Misspelling can also affect your search engine results and rankings with all of the search engines.

Some of the higher dollar marketing programs may include a “keyword effectiveness indicator” often referred to as KEI. The information these programs provide is priceless. Spending a bit of time in researching how these programs work is definitely worth the time invested and money well spent.

A great help in your research for the right keywords and phrases can be found in many of the keyword research tools. Do a Google search for “Keyword Research Tools” and see which program fits your needs and works best for you. You’ll be able to analyze and compare what keywords and/or phrases your competition may be using. If you use such programs such as pay per click, these tools can be extremely helpful and can simplify your keyword comparisons as well. Many such programs will harvest these valuable statistics directly from Google, Yahoo and Bing as well as some of the lesser known engines.

By implementing the basic suggestions listed above, you can enhance your keyword and keyword phrase results substantially. Use any and all avenues available when doing research for keywords and phrases. It’s going to take a bit of time to complete the research properly, so don’t be hasty or get discouraged.

When I’m doing keyword research for a web site or article, I will sometimes spend more time and effort on finding the right keywords and phrases than I will spend on writing the article or building the web site.

Learning how to do the proper research now, will help you to become more efficient for future research projects. Be prepared to spend some money for the right programs, however, take your time and do the job right the first time and you should see positive results rather quickly.
