How to Build a Search Engine and User Friendly Web Site

Building a friendly search engine web site is important if you expect the search engines to send targeted users to your site and keep sending their robots back to index your site for higher page rankings. There are diverse opinions by many web site builders on what should be included in a well designed web site and what should be ignored. The key here is to make a web site that's appealing to the internet user including some eye appeal; however, few web designers understand the value of a well optimized web site so it will show well on the internet. You can have a beautiful web site with all the bells and whistles, then publish the site on the internet and many times the search engines will not take a second look at your site. Why?? Let?s talk about what the search engines are really looking for so you can achieve online success with your web site.

The whole purpose of building a web site is to get potential buyers to your site. This is accomplished by having an optimized web site that is keyword rich in its content and is designed with the search engines in mind so that when a user types a search term in the search bar of any search engine that the engine will search their data bases and show the most relevant site that meets the users search terms. Search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing and other fine search engines finds your site by matching your keywords and phrases in your source code with the keyword that the user types in the search bar of the search engines.

Even though your site may not be optimized correctly for now, with the expertise of a knowledgeable SEM/SEO Consultant they can normally make some minor adjustments in the source code of your site that will make an enormous difference on where you site will appear on the internet. By having your site optimized you will be able to rank higher on the search engine and more traffic will be sent to your site by the engines. Unless your site ranks well with the engines you will never be found online unless someone refers your site to a friend or someone accidentally stumbles on your web site and is captivated by all the flash and glitter and stays on your webpage long enough to review your busines opportunity.

All the major search engines utilizes similar types of robot crawlers (which is modified to include their algorithms)to index web sites on the internet. The purpose is to match keywords that are being searched for by the users in their inquires and match those search terms with properly configured web sites that have like keywords in their source code and those keywords are viewable in the content of the site itself.

The robots will also follow other links on your web pages, and record pertinent information from that link in their data bases as well. This is where the engines pull matching data regarding relevative information from links that you have listed on your site. This is where you will generate backlinks to your site. Additional information regarding backlinks is covered in other articles written by this author.

There are certain things that the engines frown on when building your site that could be a detriment to the success of your site as well. Some examples of such items are the use of frames in the source code. The site must be easy for the robots to index so be sure and avoid frames at all cost if possible. The engines love new content, but doesn?t see pictures, scrolling text, some forms of Java script just to name a few.

Any of the above mentioned elements may confuse the robots and the bots may even abandon your site because of such practices. Anything that makes bookmarking your site difficult will be a minus to your efforts when it comes to promoting your web site effectively. Also avoid lengthy scripts. A simple well designed web site is so much more powerful and effective compared to a site with a lot of junk source code, bells and whistle that mean nothing to the search engines.

Keep in mind that search engine robots can only read text in your source code so if you present important words in Flash movies and images rather than in textual form, your search engine page rankings will be affected dramatically or maybe even become non existent in the eyes of the search engines.

Use Meta tags on each and every page of your site so that when search engine robots enter your site they know at first glance what that particular page is all about and whether or not to index it.
